New Year Weekend + Goals for 2017

Happy 2017!

2016 is over.  CRAZY.  It feels so weird typing out 2017 and it’s going to take me a minute to get used to it.  I’m sure I’ll continue writing ‘2016’ until March.   We had a pretty decent weekend which included an extra day off thanks to Monday being a holiday.  It was definitely much needed after spending the entire day on the couch the day before.  #oldlady  { P.S. – WordPress won’t let me use an apostrophe in my title hence why it’s not “New Year’s Weekend” – can someone explain why WP does this? }

Our NYE was pretty low-key.  I spent most of the morning/early afternoon doing some shopping.  And then cleaning the house when I got home.  We went to dinner at Mama’s Pizza with Jeremy & Arin and spent the rest of the evening at our place with them.  We played the game Taboo for quite awhile & drank lots of champagne.  Oh, and we had to get a picture since we’re never dressed up!

I found those champagne glasses (or whatever type of glass you want to call them as they were actually in the wine section) at Home Goods on Friday — they are a turquoise ombre frosted glass with gold at the top.  I only got two but now I’m wishing I would have bought their entire stock!  They are so pretty!

So what will 2017 bring?  I feel like I tend to fail when I set really high goals for myself — like finding a new job or making friends.  These were two things I wanted for 2016 and did they happen?  Not really.  In fact, I was rejected for not one but two promotions at work by the time March rolled around so I was feeling pretty defeated when it came to job hunting.  This year, I don’t want to have such high goals for myself.  It will be the last year of my 20s so I kind of want to go with the flow, along with making some small(er) changes.

  • Learn more about IIFYM – I’ve been saying this for far too long.  I think my body would respond well to flexible dieting, especially with all of the cardio/HIT that I do.  It’s just a matter of understanding macros, what to eat, what numbers to hit in order to lose weight yet maintain  muscle, etc.
  • Continue to try new workouts & plan workouts –  I recently started taking a Cycle class and surprisingly, I love it!  I still love doing HIT workouts over anything else but I don’t think it would hurt to do Pilates, Barre, or something similar.  On the days that I don’t do a group class, I’m usually scrambling to figure out what to do before I get to the gym or as soon as I get there.  I need to plan something out before I walk through the doors!
  • Stop hoarding products –   This is something I’ve been working on the past few months & it has been a work in progress.  Like, do I really need five different types of lotion and three different shampoos?  How about thirty shades of taupe eye shadow?   No.  I’ve been working through the products I have sitting in the closet, in my vanity, in the shower, etc. and trying not to re-purchase anything unless its an absolute necessity.
  • Get up earlier –   I’m not a morning person at all so I tend to sleep in until the very last minute.  I’m not saying that I want to get to work any earlier but it would be nice to have some more time to get ready in the mornings.  Having a dog has motivated me to get out of bed earlier, mainly because she needs to go outside & run around for awhile.

Here’s to 2017!  How was your weekend & what goals do you have for the year?

  1. I’m a huge fan of trying new things and mixing up your workouts. This year, I’ll be doing more yoga and just bought a groupon for $70 for 2 months of unlimited classes. When I did regular yoga early last year, I saw great improvements in my flexibility for Muay Thai (ha, everything revolves around improving muay thai) and I recently started snowshoeing. Who would have thought that snowshoeing burns massive calories?!

      Groupon is a good idea! I have heard that yoga is good for pretty much everything fitness related too. I just struggle with relaxing enough to get into it & actually get some sort of benefit out of it. Snowshoeing sounds crazy hard too!!

    OOOH! I know someone that’s really helpful with IIFYM 🙂 AKA my boyfriend. If you ever want someone to even chat with, let me know! He’d be happy to email with you.

    oh my gosh i love those glasses! so fancy.
    i’ve tried to look into IIFYM and it seems like a great idea, but i don’t know too much about it.
    i am a morning person, but i am also a stay in bed till the last minute person. i like to roll out of bed and go, regardless of where i am going – work or gym. if i am staying home or whatever, i stay in bed until the last possible second lol.

      I regret not buying their entire stock of those glasses! They are so pretty, haha. IIFYM is so confusing.. like I have no idea what kind of numbers I should be hitting or anything like that. I’m the SAME way in the mornings.. always staying in bed until the very last minute! It’s so hard to get up early!
