Weekend + Life Lately- Ice Storm, Pink Hair, and Race Training

Happy Monday!

We are in the middle of an ice storm right now which started yesterday afternoon & is expected to continue into the overnight.  This is what our back patio looks like as I’m typing this– it’s basically a skating rink!

We are off work today thanks to the holiday & don’t plan on driving anywhere!  Depending on what the roads are like tomorrow, I may be taking a vacation day.  This winter has been very strange.  We have yet to get a major snow fall when we are normally buried in snow by this time of the year.  Any snow that we have gotten has melted within a day.  Not to mention that temperatures have been all over the place.  For example, it’s 32 degrees & we’re in an ice storm warning but the high for tomorrow is 39 degrees while the rest of the week is going to be in the 40s.  What???

Anywho, life hasn’t been too exciting lately hence why I only posted one time last week.  Last Sunday night, we were at Curtis’ parents house for dinner when I got hit with a cold just out of the blue.  I was perfectly fine when we got to their place but by the time we finished dinner, I was a stuffy, coughy mess.  So, DayQuil and NyQuil were my friends all last week and I was wiped out by the evening.  I think my workouts helped knock the cold out more than the medicine as I finally started feeling better by Friday.

Our Christmas present was delivered on Saturday morning— a new dishwasher!  You know you’re an adult when appliances are exciting.  The dishwasher that was left by the previous owners was complete junk.  As in, it smelled like they never cleaned it & it left a nice residue on our dishes.  So after two unsuccessful attempts to use it, we have been hand washing everything since we bought the house back in August.  We received some gift cards to Home Depot as a Christmas gift so we put them towards a dishwasher that had to be ordered online.

I have been getting my hair colored at Ulta for a few years now so I made an appointment for Saturday for a new color.  I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I was wanting to possibly do a hidden color underneath (purple) along with possibly a darker red for all over.  I get to my appointment & tell the lady what I wanted to do when she informs me that purple would not show up on my red hair.  I’m not a beauty person at all so this was news to me.  She informed me that they would have to bleach the area & then dye it in order for the color to show up.  Plus, it would only stick for maybe 3-4 weeks before I’d have to get it colored again.  And want to know the price of all that?   $130.  On top of the $87 it would cost for an all over color.  I about threw up when she told me that.   If I didn’t want to go through with bleaching my hair, my only options were warmer colors, like red or pink.  And the price of even doing that was well over what I wanted to spend so I ended up just doing the all over color & calling it a day….  sort of.  😉   I’m a terrible person & picked up a semi permanent pink hair dye.  Since you pay for your salon services at the main cashier in the store, the stylist didn’t see that I was buying it.  If I would have done more research, I would have just bought this hair dye rather than spending the money on an all over color.  Oh well…

So, this was my project on Saturday night!  It’s a lot brighter in the sunlight but otherwise, it blends into the rest of my hair.  It will probably wash out fairly quick but it’s fun to have for now.

Trek Up The Tower is almost ONE MONTH away so I’ve been trying to train for it.  I say trying because there is really no way to train for it unless you’re actually running the stairs of the First National Bank building which they don’t allow.  Being sick + using the stair machine almost simulates running up the stairs because it’s hard to breathe, your throat is on fire, and you’re fighting the urge to cough.  I think that was the worst part of the entire race!  When I trained last year, I was hitting 870 steps on the machine at 10 minutes 30 seconds or some time around there while this year I’ve been hitting it around 9:30 to 9:45.  My best time so far on the machine has been 9 minutes & 26 seconds which is actually less than my race time last year so I’m hopeful that my race time will be even better!

Alright, I think I’m going to wrap this up here.  It’s almost noon & I’ve accomplished nothing.  I think today will be a good day to do some organizing & cleaning.  Linking up with Biana today for Weekending!

I have no idea why, but none of your posts have shown up in my bloglovin! I thought you quit blogging until I just saw the link to your last post on Jessie’s blog! So weird! Now I feel like I need to go back and catch up! It’s been so long!

Very strange! I have had some blogs completely disappear for awhile & then they randomly show up again so I don’t know what the deal is! I think changing blogs & adding the new URL also kind of messed things up with my profile.
