Good morning friends!
I’ve been putting this little blog on the back burner lately as I’ve felt like there hasn’t been enough hours in the day sometimes. By the time I’d sit down for the evening, it would be 9:00 or after which is pretty much my bedtime these days. I’ve been reading a lot more so I like to get into bed & read for awhile in order to wind down. Remember my grand plans at the beginning of this year to start getting up earlier? Yeah, I really need to get on that so I have more time after work!
This is a short week for me which I’m really excited about. 🙂 I took tomorrow off as Sophie is finally getting spayed. I’m taking her to a different vet and they require drop off at 8:00 and pick up some time between 2-3:30. I decided to take the entire day off to do some stuff around the house, workout, and just enjoy a weekday off.
I was planning on going up to South Dakota this weekend with my mom to visit my grandparents. But, due to some unforeseen circumstances, that didn’t happen. I had spent most of Friday night doing laundry, picking up some roadtrip snacks at the grocery store, and cleaning up the house but then Saturday morning I got a text from my mom saying that she wouldn’t be able to go.
Since I was up so early on Saturday morning (seriously, 7am on the weekend is an ungodly hour), I drank some coffee & researched some hair salons fore scheduling an appointment. I hit up the gym for a quick HIT workout only because I didn’t give myself enough time before my hair appointment at 11:00. My last hair cut was in early January so it was extremely overdue. My hair is very thick, coarse, and wavy which requires hair cuts pretty often. I’ve just been super lazy lately & have been going months in between cuts. Which then requires MORE hair to be chopped off because it’s so damaged. So, what I thought was going to be a trim + cleaning up my layers ended up being 4 inches off.
The stylist had straightened my hair so I added in the curls later. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to re-create this look because there was SO MUCH product in my hair so the curls stayed put & didn’t move at all.
After the haircut, I came back home to eat lunch quickly before heading back out to get some stuff at Ulta and Target. We went over to Curtis’ cousins place on Saturday evening for food & a birthday celebration. We stayed there until about 8:30 before heading back home. Curtis’ other cousin stayed with us so they watched UFC while I laid in bed and messed around on my laptop.
Sunday was another early morning but most of it was spent laying around & relaxing. After his cousin left, we decided to grab lunch at Pepperjax before hitting up Mulhall’s for some new plants & flowers for our front yard. Once we got home, we got to work digging up the hideous rocks that the previous owners had used for an edge of the flower beds.
This was before all of my tulips died….
Curtis’ dad gave us a bunch of bricks shortly after we moved in to the house last year. They have been sitting outside along the side of the house so we finally put them to use!
I didn’t get any pictures but whoever did the landscaping before had used all of this netting underneath the dirt. We dug all of that out & tossed it. Apparently it is supposed to help with weeds but as you can see in the picture above, the weeds still grew through it.
And… the finished product! Well, mostly finished. We still need to add some mulch. But….we added a peony bush which is the tall plant in the middle with the dark pink bud already forming (I’m SO excited about this, you have no idea). There are two smaller perennials on both side of the peony that supposedly bloom with blue/lavender flowers. And then two pink geraniums in front– I plan on adding more so it doesn’t look so bare.
The bush on the left was one that we planted last fall. We picked up another one to plant on the other side so that they match. They are both burning bushes so will turn bright red in the fall. The plant in the middle (which is hard to see) is another perennial. Honestly, I can’t remember what it is supposed to look like, haha. And then four more geraniums in front. Again, I plan to add more to this area! Sooo… not too shabby for two people who have never had a garden before! Unfortunately, there are even more of those ugly rocks along the side of the house which we also plan to tear out. I don’t think we will put any plants there but at least we won’t have to look at the rocks!
We spent a good 3 1/2 hours doing all of this so we were exhausted by the time this was all finished. And I have a nice sports bra outline sunburn on my back. 🙁 We made a trip to the grocery store, grabbed a pizza, and spent the rest of the evening preparing for the week. So, overall a really good & productive weekend! But, I’m definitely looking forward to a short week!
Have a great day everyone! Linking up with Biana!
